The client brief:

In February 2020 we were commissioned to design, supply and install a steel frame inside an existing manufacturing facility to support a large production line, part of a larger £12.5 m project.

The work we completed:

MLB Steel provided a complete end-end service on this project; design, supply and installation of a complete steel frame, including mesh flooring/under guarding and hand rails – a total combined weight of 240 tonnes.

One month into the project, we were presented with the challenges and new restrictions imposed by the government during the Covid-19 pandemic. Although we were already working to very tight timescales, we are proud to say that the project was completed and fully installed, safely and efficiently throughout.

MLB Steel worked alongside a number of other contractors on this project to ensure that it was delivered on time. We erected steelwork inside the existing building, working around the previously installed machinery.

Project outcome:

As well as the challenges that the pandemic presented, this project required many design revisions during both manufacture and during the installation of the project which we happily accommodated.

We spent around 8 weeks on site and completed works to the highest standards, and to the complete satisfaction of our customer.

Key Successes:

Key specific successes to note are:

1. MLB provided a complete end-to-end service – full design and build of a complex internal steel frame, on time and on budget. We met all client expectations and schedules. We were on-site whenever required to provide support, information and advice.

2. Working as a team – we worked very efficiently with our internal teams and other contractors to deliver this large-scale project on time.

3. Efficiency – the project was on schedule despite the challenges due to various design changes, and the impact of Covid-19.

4. Adaptability and versatility – this project demonstrated our ability to adapt and problem solve quickly and efficiently.
