In this case study, we showcase a project which has resulted in usbeing commissioned work for 3 more projects for the client. Read our case study for a high bay vehicle enclosure.
Client: Confidential
Location: West Midlands
Tonnage: 75 tonnes (excluding cladding and roofing)
Completion Date: October 2019
The client brief:
In October 2019, we were instructed to design, supply and install a steel frame to create a high bay vehicle enclosure. This long established and highly regarded large-scale manufacturer of liquid waste vacuum tankers, supplying to the UK and worldwide briefed us to create an enclosure suitable for vehicle testing/inspection.
The work we completed:
Taking on full design responsibility for this project, we carried out the design and build. We utilised both hot-rolled steel and lattice beams to provide a large steel frame to form an open fronted vehicle testing facility (total weight 75 tonnes). This project included the design, supply and fitting of the roofing and cladding, providing our client with a completed building envelope.
Challenges overcome:
Part way through the project, we were presented with the issue of underground services (electric and gas pipes). These pipes were located in the exact location where columns were designed to be.
We therefore stiffened the steelwork, enabling the columns to be removed without compromising on the structural integrity and safety of the structure.
Project outcome:
This full project went extremely well from start to finish. We completed the full building envelope on time and within budget. The client is very happy with their new testing facility and has subsequently placed orders with us for a further 2 buildings.
Specific Successes:
Key specific successes to note are:
1. We offered a complete end-to-end service – we over-delivered on the client expectations and schedule. We were on-site when required to gather information and offer advice.
2. We showed we are authentic, reliable and trustworthy – the client told us that we were awarded this project from the pre-tender interviews and meetings, based on our knowledge and experience. They had the confidence that we would do the job well and would over deliver on quality, service and within timeframes. This was confirmed by delivering on-time and on-budget.
3. Efficiency – the project went up on time despite the challenges due to various design changes and issues caused whilst ground works were completed.
4. Adaptability and versatility – this project demonstrated our ability to adapt and come up with solutions to problems presented. We overcame the issue of avoiding underground services with some clever design solutions, showing our ability to work together as a team.
